Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

 Welcome to Year 3,

We have made it to the final term of Year 3.  We hope you enjoyed your half term holiday and are looking forward to making our last term the best term.

This half term,we will be doing projects focusing on Science - forces and magnets, in Art will be making patterns by using  resources found in nature and string pictures. In PSHE we will be looking at basic First Aid and the dangers of smoking and our weekly French lessons will be focusing on the phrase 'Je peux' (I can..).

This term we will be continuing our weekly spelling test on Fridays. The children will bring home a list of spelling each Friday with 10 High Frequency Words (HFW) and 10 Year 3 Statutory spellings. If you feel your child really needs to focus on the HFW then they should focus on those and will only have to write those spellings during the test. If you feel your child is secure with the HFW they will be tested on all 20 spellings.

We will continue to focus on our core subjects everyday engaging the children in all their learning. Below you will find our Curriculum Letter and the Home Learning Grids. The Home Learning Grid is also on our Google Classrooms where the children can directly upload their work.

Reading for pleasure

In Year 3, we enjoy reading a range of books throughout the year. If you would like some suggested books for your child to read at home, please see our 'Recommended Reading Lists' on our Year group page under 'Useful Resources'.

The classes have really enjoyed using the following songs to help them with their times tables.  Here are the links to help practising at home.

 Our Work

World Book Day! The children had some fabulous costumes on!

This half term we have been looking at statistics. The children got very creative with their pictograms!

History & Art

This half term we have been learning about the Ancient Maya in both History and Art. In History the children learnt many interesting facts about the Maya and even made Mayan hot chocolate with dark chocolate, cinnamon and chillies!! The children had very different opinions on the hot chocolate:

In Birch Madision said, "Horrible! I didn't like it."

Daniel said, "I liked it better than normal hot chocolate!"

In Rowan Daisy said, "I liked the spicy taste, it made it hot to drink."

Giovanni said, "It was watery and tasted like rubber."

In Art the children made and painted Mayan clay pots.
